Lots of news items land in my mail boxes, some amusing, some heavy but helpful. Here are some of the ones I thought would be worth keeping and passing on.

Here’s a selection of the news items that pass through the ECPC mailbox.

CGI makeover for theory test

The hazard perception part of the driving theory test is updated with computer generated imagery (CGI) as from Monday 12 January 2015.

DVSA announced in December 2014 that the hazard perception clips in the theory tests would be replaced with new computer generated imagery (CGI) clips.

Filmed video clips were previously used to test candidates' reactions to developing hazards on the road. The scenarios in these clips are still relevant, but the image quality wasn't as clear or defined as modern digital technology allows.

No change to how the test works

The first new clips show the same situations as the filmed clips, but are clearer on the screen and include updated vehicles, roads and surroundings to reflect modern day driving.

The way the hazard perception part of the theory test works hasn’t changed. The pass mark stays the same.

The clips:

- feature everyday road scenes

- contain at least one 'developing hazard' - but one of the clips will feature two 'developing hazards'

Dealing safely with cycles can be tricky, especially at roundabouts. Here’s how the Dutch do it. BBC News reports on a Dutch roundabout that may soon begin a trial in London http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-22347184
